3D Design and Printing

What is 3D Design?

For those of you who don't know what 3D design actually is, here's a small explanation for you. 3D design is the art of modeling an object in 3D space. There are special softwares that allow the user to feel like they are designing in 3D. The objects designed in the 3D platform can be anything. Literally, anything you can think of.

Printing Out Those Designs!

But it's not just limited to the design part. These models can be printed out with a 3D printer. Today's generic 3D printer has not been fully developed yet. Printing speed and accuracy are not the greatest yet.

Speaking of accuracy, you might be wondering how the generic 3D printer works. Most 3D printers print out slowly in layers. This means that the Z axis slowly grows in height while the X and Y coordinates are changing as well.

If you flip through these slides, you can see that the model is printed layer by layer, with each adding a little height to the final product. Because of this way of printing things, we can print things that are interlocked together. For example, this chain.
